You might be aware that you can transfer Capital One miles to multiple airline partners. However, what might be news to you is the ability to share Capital One miles with loved ones. While some credit cards restrict you to pooling points/miles only within your own accounts, Capital One offers this added flexibility, enhancing the value you get when redeeming miles.

Share Capital One Miles

There isn’t a fee to transfer your Capital One miles to another account. Specifically, miles can be shared between the following credit cards:

  • Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
  • Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
  • And the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card
  • Capital One Spark Miles for Business
  • Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business

You cannot share miles between a travel credit card (i.e. Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card) and a cash rewards card (i.e. Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card).

While Chase Ultimate Rewards lets you transfer points to immediate family living at the same address, Capital One doesn’t have a “same household” restriction. You can share miles with any person with a Venture Card, Venture One, Spark Miles, or Spark Miles Select.

Note that these cards are all some of the best Capital One credit cards for travel.

Click “Rewards Miles”

Once you’re inside your Capital One online account, the first step is clicking your rewards miles balance. This leads you to a menu listing the different ways to redeem Capital One miles.

Share Your Rewards

The next step is choosing the “Move Rewards” button. You will have the option of either transferring miles to another eligible Capital One credit card in your name. The second option is to share miles with another person’s Capital One account.

If transferring to another one of your accounts, you can complete the entire transfer process online.

You may need to call Capital One to share miles with another person. However, it’s possible to complete third-party transfers online.

Why Share Capital One Miles?

Sharing Capital One miles can be a good idea for several reasons. The transferred miles don’t expire and you won’t pay a transfer fee. Below are some reasons to consider sharing miles.

Consolidate Accounts

You might decide to pool your miles into one account so you can downsize the number of Capital One cards you earn.

Maybe the credit card you’re going to close charges an annual fee. It’s likely that you’re not able to redeem your existing miles before your card renewal date. Transferring now preserves your miles while you avoid the annual fee.

Too Many New Capital One Accounts

Each person is only able to have up to 5 Capital One credit cards at once and can only apply for 2 cards in 30 days. So, you might apply and earn the signup bonus then transfer the miles to your friend to round off the existing point balance.

Repay a Travel Purchase

If your friend pays for a trip with their credit card, you might decide to share miles to offset this cost. They can redeem the miles as a travel statement credit.

Transfer to Airline Partners

Probably the best reason to consider sharing miles with another Capital One account is for the airline partners. Since you can’t transfer miles directly to a friend’s frequent flyer account, this is your next best option. Note that the amount of time varies depending on the airline when you transfer Capital One miles.

Once the miles land in the other person’s account, they can transfer their miles to these programs:

  • Aeromexico (1:1 ratio)
  • Aeroplan (Air Canada) (1:1 ratio)
  • Air France/KLM (1:1 ratio)
  • Avianca (1:1 ratio)
  • British Airways (1:1 ratio)
  • Cathay Pacific (1:1 ratio)
  • Emirates (1:1 ratio)
  • Etihad (1:1 ratio)
  • EVA Air (2:1.5 ratio)
  • Finnair (1:1 ratio)
  • Qantas (1:1 ratio)
  • Singapore Airlines (1:1 ratio)
  • TAP Air Portugal (1:1 ratio)
  • Turkish Airlines (1:1 ratio)
  • ALL Accor (2:1 ratio)
  • Choice Privileges (1:1 ratio)
  • Wyndham Rewards (1:1 ratio)

Two of the partners you can consider first are Avianca LifeMiles and Singapore Airlines. Avianca is a Star Alliance partner and they waive the fuel surcharge on international carriers including Lufthansa.

There are plenty of ways to redeem Singapore Krisflyer miles. One of the best ways to splurge on a Singapore-operated flight is a Singapore Suites class flight from New York to Frankfurt for 86,000 miles. You can also book Star Alliance partner flights. However, the best partner flight is flying Alaska Air from the U.S. West Coast to Hawaii for 25,000 KrisFlyer miles round-trip.

Eligible Capital One Credit Cards

Below are the four qualifying Capital One travel rewards credit cards. You can share miles between these various accounts.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

Cardholders also earn unlimited:

  • 10x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel

Earn 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel, with the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.

This is one of the best Capital One credit cards.

The annual fee is $395, but there are no foreign transaction fees.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is possibly the best travel credit card overall because it’s so easy to earn and redeem miles (though the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card gives it a bit of competition). All purchases made on the Capital One Venture card earn 2x miles. However, earn 5X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

Your Venture miles are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for a travel statement credit or booking upcoming travel. The third option is transferring your miles to a Capital One partner.

It’s also possible to redeem your miles for cash rewards and gift cards. Although, this may not be the best option as your miles may be worth less than 1 cent each. Generally, you should redeem your Capital One miles when they are worth 1 cent each or more.

You also get a fee credit of up to $100 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.

Enjoy a one-time bonus of 75,000 miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel, with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card doesn’t have an annual fee or foreign transaction fee. But, your purchases only earn 1.25x miles. However, earn 5X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

Your most valuable redemption options are travel statement credits, booking upcoming travel, and travel partners.

New Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card cardholders can earn 20,000 bonus miles after spending $500 on purchases within 3 months from account opening, equal to $200 in travel.

Capital One Spark Miles for Business

It’s possible to transfer miles between personal and business accounts. The Capital One Spark Miles for Business earns 2x miles on purchases. Hotel and rental car bookings through Capital One Travel earn 5x miles.

Like the personal Capital One Venture and VentureOne, your miles are worth the most when redeemed for travel rewards or transferring to a travel partner. You also get a fee credit, up to $100, for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.

The annual fee is $0 for the first 12 months, then $95.

It’s onerous to search out educated folks on this subject, however you sound like you realize what you’re speaking about! Thanks

  2. Jim Livesay|

I have two Capital One cards: a miles card (Venture X) and a cash back card (Quicksilver). If my wife is approved for a Savor Rewards card, can she transfer her cash rewards from that card to me? Either directly into miles on my Venture X, or as cash to my Quicksilver (at which point I could transfer to miles on my Venture X)?

    1. Johnny Jet Editorial|

Sorry, since they are different cards, and earn different rewards they can’t be combined.

  3. Andy|

FYI. It’s called “Move Rewards” now on the capital one screen

      THX!

  4. Carsten|

    > FYI. It’s called “Move Rewards” now on the capital one screen

Did they remove the option to transfer to an spouse’s account?

  5. Shane|

When I click on “Move Rewards” I get a message that says “You don’t have any other eligible Capital One accounts.”

I get this on both mine and my spouse’s login. Is this share/combine option now gone?

  6. Steve|

I’m trying to share my Capital One miles with my wife’s (we both have the Cap One Venture X. There is no option to “share miles”. When I click on “Move rewards” it tells me that I have no eligible account to move to. What am I doing wrong?

  7. Karen|

Have you really tested whether it works? I don’t even see the option. I have Venture X card.

    1. Johnny Jet Editorial|

Yes, this method works with Ventures.

  8. Jim|

It does not seem to work anymore. I did it in past Now it does not exist. I was told by customer service that “we are told they are improving it but we’ll see”.

    That was two weeks ago.

I think they would just change it vs remove it and add the improved version at some point in the future

I am concerned that feature is permanently removed

    1. Johnny Jet Editorial|

Thanks for your data point, it should be working.

  9. J|

I agree: It seems the feature has been temporarily disabled.
I called last night and CS said they are working to improve this functionality. I hope they realize this is a very much appreciated feature, and that removing it can possibly ruin a competitive edge. In the past, I was able to do it all online, but after a while, the miles transfer had to be done via phone only. Now the miles transfer is no longer available….hope they bring it back soon.

  10. Andre|

I checked my capital one account and after clicking on my rewards miles balance, there is not an option to move rewards. I’ve also called 3 different times over the past week to ask about moving my miles to spouse’s account, and every time, customer service said to try again the next day.

If you say it is working, can you provide screenshots of how you are doing it? Thanks.

  11. Andre|

I agree with Jim. I just checked my capital one account and after clicking on my rewards miles balance, there is not an option to move rewards. I called customer service three different times over the past week, and every time, they said to try again the next day.

If you say it is working, can you provide screenshots that show what to do and where to go to move rewards? Thanks.

  12. Lauren S|

I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find a place to “move rewards.” This actually doesn’t seem to be an option at all with Capital One. Could you provide an article update, please?
