The World of Hyatt Credit Card card members now have an exciting new option to earn 9 points on every Hyatt stay plus an award night on their card anniversary. Chase and Hyatt have The World of Hyatt Credit Card that offers an impressive bonus. In many ways, one of the best hotel credit cards is a little richer.
The World of Hyatt Credit Card Review
The World of Hyatt Credit Card is an enticing hotel credit card. It has an annual fee of $95 and doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee.
This hotel credit card comes with several benefits that can be well worth having, like free nights, elite status, the ability to earn up to 9x points on spending, and other exclusive perks.
As long as you own a Hyatt credit card, your World of Hyatt points will never expire. And Chase Ultimate Rewards® transfer into Hyatt instantly at a 1:1 ratio.
Welcome Bonus on Hyatt Card
New cardmembers that haven’t owned a Hyatt credit card in the last 24 months qualify for a tiered welcome bonus.
New The World of Hyatt Credit Card cardmembers can earn a signup bonus of up to 65,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points. Earn the first 35,000 points by spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Plus, earn up to 30,000 More Bonus Points by earning 2x Bonus Points total per $1 spent in the first 6 months from account opening on purchases that normally earn 1x Bonus Point, on up to $15,000 spent.
Hyatt reward nights start at 5,000 points per night. The entire 65,000 point bonus can be worth up to 12 free nights if you stay in Category 1 Hyatt properties.
Check the Hyatt award chart to see what is more beneficial for you.
Many people enjoy The World of Hyatt program because their award nights are very affordable. While most hotel rewards programs continue to require more points at most properties, Hyatt has done an excellent job of offering quality hotels and resorts at a low price. When you redeem your points for free nights, it easy to redeem them for at least 2 cents each while many hotel rewards points are worth between 0.7 and 1 cent each.
For example, Category 8 is Hyatt’s most expensive hotel category. A single night only costs 40,000 points. Similar properties with other brands can easily cost 50,000 or 60,000 points per night.

Get Two Free Hyatt Nights Each Year
You now have the opportunity to earn two free hotel nights every year. Your free Hyatt nights can be redeemed at any Hyatt category 1-4 hotel or resort. Each year, you will automatically get your first free hotel night certificate after your card anniversary. This night alone can be worth more than the $95 annual fee.
Another Hyatt credit card benefit is the opportunity to earn a second free night after spending $15,000 in card purchases each anniversary year. If this is your primary credit card, you can easily get two free nights every year.
Other co-brand hotel credit cards don’t offer the first reward night until you spend $15,000. So getting two nights after spending the same amount with Hyatt is something you can’t ignore.
Earn Up To 9 Hyatt Points On Every Purchase
To earn the highest reward rate, you need to join The World of Hyatt rewards program. It’s free and you can earn 9 points instead of the base rate of 5 points per $1 on every Hyatt purchase.
All The World of Hyatt Credit Card cardholders have the opportunity to earn unlimited 2x points on these purchase categories:
- Dining
- Airline tickets purchased directly from the airline
- Fitness club and gym memberships
- Local transit and commuting, including rideshare services
All remaining purchases will earn 1 point per dollar spent.
Being able to earn double points on wellness and local transit purchases helps make The World of Hyatt Credit Card align with the increasing spending trends of many World of Hyatt members.
In addition to earning bonus points on your largest travel purchases (airlines and hotels), you can also earn double points on other benefits that you can use at home or when you travel. For example, you can use Uber and Lyft at home or when you travel. As wellness tourism continues to grow in popularity, the 2x bonus on fitness-related purchases can be another excellent earning opportunity.
Fast-Track World of Hyatt Membership Status
As a The World of Hyatt Credit Card cardholder, you automatically get World of Hyatt Discoverist status. Without a Hyatt credit card, you must stay ten nights or earn 25,000 World of Hyatt points.
Benefits of Hyatt Discoverist status include:
- 10% bonus points
- Late checkout
- Space-available room upgrades
- Premium WiFi hotspot access
Enjoy complimentary World of Hyatt Discoverist status for as long as the account is open.
Upgrade Your World of Hyatt Membership Level
Each year, you automatically get five qualifying night credits. You also get an additional 2-night credits for every $5,000 you spend. If you spend $15,000 a year, you not only get a second free night certificate but 11 qualifying night credits too.
You need to earn the following qualifying night credits or World of Hyatt points in a calendar year to upgrade to Explorist or Globalist status:
- Explorist: 30 qualifying nights or 50,000 base points
- Globalist: 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 base points
In addition to your usual Hyatt stays, these bonus qualifying nights can help put you over the edge for a membership upgrade.
Benefits of being a Hyatt Explorist include:
- Four free club passes on select award stays
- 72-hour room availability
- Upgrade to the best room (excluding suites) when available
Summary
Hyatt already has one of the most respected hotel loyalty programs. The World of Hyatt Credit Card continues to add more value to every Hyatt stay. This is arguably one of the best travel credit cards that you can own because of the generous purchase rewards, free hotel night certificates, and accelerated membership benefits.
5 Ways to Earn World of Hyatt Points
If you’re a frequent traveler, making the most of airline and hotel loyalty programs is your bread and butter. And Hyatt, as one of the largest hotel and resort chains in the world, has a valuable loyalty program to rack up points with.
Since the March 2017 shift from Hyatt Gold Passport to World of Hyatt, Hyatt has made some substantial changes to the program. For one, Hyatt introduced base points and bonus points–two different types of rewards with slightly different applications. One thing that hasn’t changed: there are still plenty of ways to earn substantial points in the World of Hyatt program– and not all of them involve booking hotel stays.
Before we get to how you can earn points, let’s clarify how those points will work.
Base Points Versus Bonus Points
On the surface, Hyatt’s two different types of points might seem confusing. But when you break it down, this system is pretty straightforward.
Base points can be earned only by making eligible purchases with Hyatt. You can redeem them for free stays, room upgrades, dining, spa visits, and other Hyatt purchases. They’ll also count towards achieving elite status.
Bonus points are those that you earn through other activities, like taking advantage of promotions, credit card sign-up bonuses, and earning points with the Hyatt credit card. The major difference here is that bonus points won’t help you elevate your status, though you will be able to redeem them as usual.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, here are our top 5 ways to earn both base and bonus points with World of Hyatt:
1. Stay at Hyatt Properties
Let’s start with the obvious: Hyatt rewards loyalty members for staying at its properties. And considering that Hyatt offers over 700 locations and 13 brands around the world, that’s not very limiting. As a World of Hyatt member, you’ll earn 5 base points for every dollar you spend on eligible purchases at Hyatt properties. Those points will also help you to achieve elevated status with Hyatt.
2. Sign-up for the Hyatt Credit Card
Signing up for The World of Hyatt Credit Card from Chase–and earning its sign-up bonus–is probably the quickest way to rack up points with Hyatt. But even beyond earning the sign-up bonus, you’ll be able to earn points with Hyatt on your regular spending. Here’s how:
New The World of Hyatt Credit Card cardmembers can earn a signup bonus of up to 65,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points. Earn the first 35,000 points by spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Plus, earn up to 30,000 More Bonus Points by earning 2x Bonus Points total per $1 spent in the first 6 months from account opening on purchases that normally earn 1x Bonus Point, on up to $15,000 spent.
Plus, cardholders can earn 9x points total per $1 spent at Hyatt – 4 Bonus Points per $1 when you use your card at Hyatt hotels & 5 Base Points per $1 you can earn as a World of Hyatt member.
And earn 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent at restaurants, on airline tickets purchased directly from the airlines, on local transit and commuting, and on fitness club and gym memberships.
As a bonus, you get automatic World of Hyatt Elite status for as long as your account is open. Additionally, you get 5 qualifying night credits toward your next tier status every year. Each time you spend $5,000 on your card, you will earn 2 qualifying night credits towards your next tier status.
You’ll also get 1 free night stay at a category 1-4 hotel or resort each year after your cardmember anniversary. If you’re keen to start earning and redeeming points with Hyatt, carrying their credit card is a huge boost.
Bonus: The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card
The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is the program’s first small business credit card. This Chase card earns:
- 9x total points on Hyatt stays (4x points per $1 spent at Hyatt hotels, participating Small Luxury Hotels of the World, participating Exhale locations, and eligible Lindblad Expeditions. Plus, 5x points from Hyatt per eligible $1 spent for being a World of Hyatt member)
- 2x per $1 spent on fitness club and gym memberships
Cardholders earn 1 bonus point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
Additionally, earn 2x bonus points on the top three spending categories each quarter through December 31, 2024, and then your top two categories each quarter. Categories include:
- Airline tickets purchased directly from the airline
- Car rental agencies
- Local transit and commuting
- Gas stations
- Dining
- Internet, cable, and phone services
- Social media and search engine advertising
- Shipping
For example, you would earn 2x points on airline tickets, car rentals, and dining if these are your three top categories. Your purchases from the other 5 categories only earn 1x points.
New World of Hyatt Business Credit Card cardholders can earn 60,000 Bonus Points after they spend $5,000 on purchases in their first 3 months from account opening.

3. Use Ultimate Rewards Shopping Portals
If you don’t anticipate earning many points at Hyatt properties or with the Hyatt card’s bonus spending categories, you can diversify your earnings by using shopping portals.
You can use The World Of Hyatt Credit Card to shop through the Chase Ultimate Rewards shopping portal, earning anywhere from 2x to 7x points on your purchases. The portal is straightforward to use: instead of going out to shop, search for your preferred store in the Ultimate Rewards portal. If that shop is available, it’ll show you how many points per dollar you’ll be able to earn by shopping there. Then, just click through the “Shop Now” button– whatever you buy in that window will earn extra bonus points on your next statement.
To be clear, using the Ultimate Rewards shopping portal will earn Chase points–not Hyatt points. Luckily, Chase offers 1:1 point transfers to Hyatt with no minimum transfer, so you’ll have no problem switching your bonus points over.
4. Chase Ultimate Rewards
Speaking of Chase, there’s an added bonus to using a credit card in the Ultimate Rewards family: you’ll be able to pool points between your Hyatt card and any other Ultimate Rewards card in your name (or in the name of your spouse or domestic partner.)
5. Follow Hyatt Promotions
If you’re looking to plan a vacation in the upcoming months, you can find special offers on the Hyatt site. Hyatt regularly posts discounts at certain properties and offers bonus points for booking a stay at others–usually at recently opened properties.
You won’t be able to earn base points on these promotions, meaning they won’t count toward elevating your Hyatt status. But you will be able to redeem your bonus points for rewards.
These aren’t the only 5 ways you can earn points with World of Hyatt, but they are the most efficient. Between the combination of the Hyatt credit card and another high-earning Ultimate Rewards card, you’ll be able to rack up points in no time. Not to mention, you’ll get that 10% bonus on Hyatt purchases, among the other perks of Discoverist status. If you’re looking to boost your points earnings with Hyatt, these 5 opportunities are a great way to start.
