Kaley Cuoco recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her new film Role Play, now streaming on Amazon Prime. During the interview, she told the story of flying for the first time with her baby Matilda, who was born on March 30, 2023. Kaley and her partner, actor Tom Pelphrey, were traveling over Thanksgiving weekend and she told Jimmy about what happened on the January 8 broadcast. Jimmy quipped, “The best thing about having kids is traveling with them.” Ha. Now that’s funny. Although, I have to say, my wife and I have been really fortunate to have two kids (ages 7 and 4) who are great little travelers and have been since day one. I think perhaps it’s because my wife traveled often when she was pregnant and then, once they were born, we were always prepared with things to keep them busy. From snacks to books and games.
Now that they’re older, our trick is to let them use their iPads (with headphones, of course) and we don’t hear a peep from them. But the real secret is that we don’t give them their iPads at home so when we travel, it’s a really big treat for them.
Kaley told Jimmy that she was “so terrified” to fly with Matilda for the first time. “I thought, what do we do? We have to bring her sound machine on the plane, okay? The only thing she can go to sleep to.” Jimmy said exactly what I was thinking: “Now a plane, some might argue, is, in itself, a sound machine.”
Kaley said Matilda was crying so they put the sound machine right next to her ear because “it’s the only thing that will get her to go to sleep.” When she finally fell asleep, Kaley says the flight attendant came over and said, “One of our passengers would love it if you would turn the sound machine off.”
Kaley says, “Really? And I’m sitting there, and I can see Tom’s got her. And I’m sitting there and like, oh, my god! Oh, my god! And I can feel Tom be like, hey! Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ask the passenger if she wants to hold her screaming child.”
I don’t know how loud the sound machine was but I do know that I would much rather listen to a sound machine than a baby crying. However, I would rather listen to a baby cry than listen to a kid watching Cocomelon without headphones but that’s a whole different story.
To make matters worse, Kaley said that when they landed and Matilda was all smiles, the woman in front of them turned around and said, “So, your daughter does know how to smile.”
Kaley said, “It was in that moment where I understood why women end up on Dateline. Also, you see all these things on social media where people are really truly, really getting mad at these babies. Like, justice for babies. This is ridiculous. Leave them alone.”
It’s amazing, some people really despise kids and even more so when they fly. I used to be all freaked out if our kids acted up or started crying because their ears hurt. But now I don’t sweat it because I’ve paid my dues (if you only know how many screaming kids I’ve had to fly with over the years) I paid for my kids’ tickets and my kids are generally better behaved than many adults on airplanes.
If you don’t want to hear a crying baby, then you have to fly prepared with ear plugs, noise canceling headphones and music or movies downloaded. Or fly private. All of this leads to an interesting question: Would you pay more to fly on a kid-free flight?

Sounds like there’s always a good story when Kaley’s around!

Ummmm SHE can afford to fly private , and as for her comment “I’ve paid my dues by flying with screaming kids “ sounds like typical entitlement. So you imposing your kids on others is fair ? Oh okay .
That was thoughtful of her to take the sound machine so she didn’t disturb others with her baby’s crying.
People are crazy ..what do they expect? that a parent can magically make their baby stop crying without using any tools/methods necessary? did they know they used to be a crying baby at some point in their life? (probably until a ridiculously late age if they are complaining and cryin’ about a baby crying)! That yes, parent’s are aware their baby is crying and they are doing everything they can to stop it. That those people have every right to be on the plane also?!
I am much more disturbed when parents don’t make their kids put on headphones when they are watching something loudly on the plane. Or much more when it’s adults watching loudly without headphones or an adult man snoring super loudly that it woke me up! (yes both of these have happened multiple times!!! could not block out the sound even with earplugs!)
So if someone is snoring so loudly that it wakes you up even with earplugs on, is it okay to ask the flight attendant to wake them up?
